Heyva Sor sends six lorries of aid for Kobanê people in Suruç
2014-12-07
The campaign launched by the Germany based Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê in solidarity with Kobanê and Sinjar is continuing.
The Kurdish Red Crescent Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê has sent six lorries of aid material to the Kobanê citizens sheltered in the border district of Suruç in Urfa after being forced to leave their town due to ongoing attacks by barbarian ISIS gangs endeavouring to occupy the town for 83 days now.
The humanitarian aid collected for the Kobanê people in Suruç include tents, clothing, shoes and electric heaters. The tents have been left in the tent city recently built by the Suruç Municipality near the village of Külünçe to host 10 thousand people from Kobanê, while the other aid material has been stored in the Municipality Garage to be distributed to the refugees.
Hüseyin Yılmaz, member of the DBP (Party of Democratic Regions, formerly BDP) Party Assembly and Central Desk of Coordination for Rojava and Sinjar, said that the central coordination which was formed following the massive influx of refugees after the ISIS attacks on Sinjar began also included political parties and non-governmental organizations.
Informing that five tent cities have been built in Suruç and that preparations are going on for the formation of one other, Yılmaz said the majority of the food and clothing need of the Kobanê refugees was met thanks to the aid and support provided by Heyva Sor, DBP municipalities and local people.
Yılmaz remarked that they continued mobilisation under the leadership of the DBP, HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) and HDK (Peoples’ Democratic Congress), noting that the new tent city in Suruç will be built with the 1200 tents sent by Heyva Sor.
“Despite the restrictions by the Turkish state, we will continue our works in order to meet the needs of the Kobanê people”, Yılmaz underlined.

22.11.2014
The aid campaign for Kobanê and Shengal (Sinjar) launched by the Heyva Sor a Kurdistan (Kurdish Red Crescent) is continuing. The charity’s president, Suat Yalçın, said they had provided millions of euros in aid, and called on people to participate in the campaign.
The Kurdish Red Crescent, which is based in the North Rhine Westphalia region of Germany, is continuing its solidarity campaign with Kobanê and Sinjar. Yalçın said that the campaign they had launched on 5 June had taken on a new dimension with the ISIS attacks. adding: “Many people were displaced by these attacks. After 3 August 6 truckloads of aid and 350 tents were sent to Sinjar. And 250 tonnes of food and 8 ambulances were sent to the Newroz camp set up for Yezidis in the canton of Cizire (Jazireh). The needs of Yezidis in camps in North Kurdistan were also met.” Yalçın added that 850 tents had been sent to the cities of Amed, Şırnak, Mardin, Suruç, Malatya and Urfa for displaced people, and 200 thousand Euros of equipment sent to Kobanê. “We have also provided 150 thousand euros worth of aid to camps for Yezidis in Sulaymaiyeh, Dohuk and Zakho in South Kurdistan. So far we have sent a total of 1.825.000 Euros worth of materials, 20 tonnes of medicine and health materials”
‘People should continue to support the campaign’
Suat Yalçın said the campaign was continuing all over Europe, with the participation of Kurdish people. He said that they had been unable to secure the cooperation of institutions in Europe, adding that this demonstrated European states’ attitudes to the Kurds. He said Kurdish organisations, the Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA), the Federation of Êzîdî (Yezidi) Associations (FKÊ) and the Islamic Society of Kurdistan(CİK) had worked with them.
‘Our people must not lose their spirit of mobilisation’
Suat Yalçın said people from America, Canada, Australia Japan, the Philippines, Georgia, Azerbaijan and New Zealand had also contributed to their campaign. He added that at the beginning they had mainly collected money, but were now also interested in collecting food and clothes to distribute. He said that with the onset of winter the situation would worsen. “Our people must not lose their spirit of mobilisation. They must assist us with money, medicine and hospital equipment,” he concluded.

Aid from Germany to people of Shengal
10 September 2014
AACHEN: Through the aid campaign organised by the European Kurdish Women’s Movement and the Ezidi Kurdish Women’s Council in the city of Aachen, Germany, two truckloads of aid were sent to the refugees from Sinjar (South Kurdistan/Northern Iraq) and Rojava (Western Kurdistan/North Syria).
The aid campaign lead by the European Kurdish Women’s Movement and the Ezidi Kurdish Women’s Council in the city of Aachen with Heyva sor was started with great momentum after the attacks of the Islamic State (ISIS) on mount Sinjar on 3rd August. Both organisations have been campaigning to draw attention to the plight of more than 2,000 women kidnapped and used as sex slaves by ISIS bandits. Since the 3rd of August, a day announced as a black day in the Kurdish history, many different activities have been undertaken as part of the awareness and aid campaign. These activities include: the delivery of information reports to NGOs, political parties, health and aid organisations and demonstration tents set up in the city centre. In order to draw attention to the plight of the Kurdish women captured as sex slaves by ISIS and to protest against the silence prevailing in the international community with regards to this horrific situation, the women staying over-night in these tents sealed their mouths with black tapes and chained their arms with heavy chains to symbolise the silence and the slavery of women.
On the day of the transportation of the trucks a press-release was read out by one of the campaigners to condemn the actions of ISIS against the Yazidi, Assyrian, Christian, Alevi and Shia women, which called out to the international community and to all women’s rights organisations around to world to join the campaigners to help protect the vulnerable women and children in Shengal (Sinjar) and Rojava.
After this press release the demonstrators marched to the point the aid trucks were parked and Faik Yumusak, an active member of the aid campaign, thanked Aachen People’s Assembly, our charity Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê and all individuals who helped for their efforts in collecting aid. Following this the trucks full of medicine, hospital beds, wheelchairs, canes and clothing were sent off to Shengal and Rojava.

More effort needed to aid Rojava
8th January 2013
The Kurdish Red Crescent, which launched an emergency appeal for Rojava, states that humanitarian assistance is insufficient. They emphasize that more help and effort is needed.
The emergency appeal launched by the Kurdish Red Crescent is continuing, but the aid agency says the aid sent to Rojava last year was insufficient, and add “We are in no doubt that our campaign will receive an even greater support in 2013.”
When difficulties arose last year in Rojava after the Kurdish people declared self-government, the Germany-based Kurdish Red Crescent launched an emergency appeal to meet the Kurdish people’s needs in the area. The appeal was supported mainly by Kurdish aid agencies, but also by other Kurdish companies from all around Europe. Fundraising efforts peaked 300 000 euros and more than 100 kg of medical supplies collected.
Initially a team was sent to Rojava to report on the situation. They confirmed that severe winter conditions and an embargo resulted in greater need of relief efforts to the people of Rojava. Another team was sent by the Kurdish Red Crescent to Rojava to determine the immediate needs of people. The public was informed about these needs, which included monies, medical and surgical supplies. The aid campaign was afterwards led focusing on these three basic needs and the Kurdish Red Crescent cooperated with Crossant Rouge Kurde from France, Koerdische Rode Halve Maan from Netherlands, Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê from Switzerland, Kurdiska Röda Halvmånen from Sweden, Roja Sor a Kurdistanê from Austria, Koerdische Rode Halve Maan from Belgium, Kurdish Red Crescent from the UK and Støtteforeningen Mesopotamiens Sol from Denmark. The appeal is run together with all the above mentioned European foundations with the Kurdish Red Crescent leading the charge on the ground in coordination with the newly founded Heyva Sor a Kurd and the Humanitarian Council in Rojava.
It is time to help and support
The Kurdish Red Crescent has been and is continuing to dress the wounds of the Kurdish people who are in need, helping the victims of the war, providing them with physical and moral support and taking precautions against emergency issues. The chairman of the Kurdish Red Crescent, Dr. Fahrettin Gülşen, was interviewed by our newspaper about the ‘Emergency Appeal’. He stated that they took every precaution and measures that were needed in order to deliver the aid to the right hands in time. Dr. Gülşen refered to the 40 000 euros that were raised during Eid al-Adha, later distributed to the Kurdish people and added: “Today is the day to help the people of Rojava. We are ready to do everything in our hands in order to help. Other than economical and medical help, man power is also needed. Our experienced doctor, nurse and engineer friends should also go, stay a few weeks and help. Some of our friends who want to go have issues with getting visa.” Dr. Gülşen pointed out that a list of medical necessities were sent to them by partners in Rojava, stating: “They are in need of antibiotics, pain killers, anesthesia and first aid kitss. They are also in urgent need of ambulances, as the medical staff otherwise cannot provide help to distant villages and settlements. We have sent this list to European aid agencies that are appealing for help not only for Kurds, but for all of Syria.”
Greater help is needed
Dr. Gülşen stated that aid was distributed through partners in Rojava and invited all Kurds and supportive citizens in Europe to contribute to the campaign. In his statements, these words appeared continuously: “As it has always been and still is today, the only supporters of our activities have been our people and friends. We are in no doubt that our campaign will receive an even greater support in 2013. But we have to emphasise that the raised funds are insufficient in meeting the needs of our people and our friends of other nationalities. There is urgent need for greater effort and extensive aid. No matter the conditions and where we are, we have to mobilize and unite our abilities in order to help our people and relieve their pain as much as possible. We are ready to work together with every volunteer who wants to join our campaign. Every single help and support given is important to us.”

Emergency aid appeal launched for Rojava
Jan 05, 2013
Together with dedicated partners, the Kurdish Red Crescent launched an emergency appeal for Rojava (Kurdish-populated northeast Syria) that resulted in raising over 300,000 euros and more than a 100 kg of medical supplies. Still, due to severe weather conditions and embargos, urgent need for aid remains.
Responding promptly to the emergency, the Kurdish Red Crescent initially sent a team to Rojava to determine the immediate needs of people in the area. These needs were reported as primarily being financial, medical and surgical supplies. The emergency appeal is therefore focused on meeting these critical needs.
In order to deliver the aid to the right hands on time, the Kurdish Red Crescent has taken every precaution and measures required.
The emergency appeal for Rojava was is carried out in partnership with the main Kurdish charities and foundations in Europe: Le Croissant Rouge Kurde (France), Koerdische Rode Halve Maan (Netherlands), Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê (Switzerland), Kurdiska Röda Halvmånen (Sweden), Roja Sor a Kurdistanê (Austria), Koerdische Rode Halve Maan (Belgium), Kurdish Red Crescent (UK), and Støtteforeningen Mesopotamiens Sol (Denmark).
Together with these foundations and aid agencies, the Kurdish Red Crescent is coordinating with local partners -Heyva Sor a Kurd and the Humanitarian Aid Council – to distribute aid in Rojava.
The Kurdish Red Crescent calls on everyone to support the emergency appeal and expresses thanks on behalf of collaborating Kurdish aid agencies and foundations in Europe.
